Full systems, designed rather than dropped in
A complete new central heating system starts from £5,000 + VAT: boiler, radiators, pipework and controls, sized for the property by counting radiators and measuring demand rather than guessing from floor area. An undersized system never quite warms the house on the coldest week of the year, and an oversized one short-cycles itself to an early death while burning more gas. Neither shows up until you have lived with it, which is why the design work matters more than the shiny parts.
We install, upgrade and repair across Edinburgh and the Lothians, and if your existing system has years left in it we will say so rather than sell you a new one.
Radiators, from a single swap to a full set
Swapping a single radiator starts at £180 + VAT like for like. Column, flat panel and vertical designer radiators are all routine work, and vertical models earn their keep in Edinburgh flats where the walls are full of windows and period features. Doing several at once is cheaper per radiator, because draining and refilling the system is a fixed chunk of the job however many you change.
Heated towel rails, thermostatic valves and moving a radiator to the other wall all sit in the same visit.
Cold spots, sludge and power flushing
Radiators hot at the top and cold at the bottom are not a bleeding problem, they are a sludge problem: years of corrosion settling where the water should flow. You are paying to heat the whole radiator and getting half of it. A power flush starts at £500 + VAT, clears the full system, and we fit a magnetic filter afterwards so the debris that forms from here on gets caught instead of settling.
If only one radiator is cold, it is often a stuck valve or a single radiator that needs flushing, which is a much smaller job at £70 + VAT an hour. We will tell you which you have before any money changes hands.
Controls, zoning and running costs
Thermostatic radiator valves, zoning and smart wireless thermostats can nearly always be added to an existing system without replacing it, and they are the cheapest real reduction in a heating bill we can offer. Heating the rooms you use instead of the whole house, on a schedule that matches how you actually live, does more for most bills than a new boiler does.
Every install we do includes the controls conversation, but it works as a standalone visit too.
